Traffic State Prediction in a Connected Automated Driving Environment

Accurate traffic state prediction is crucial for effective traffic management, but conventional data sources like loop detectors and stationary sensors have historically made it difficult. The dynamic nature of traffic flow and the interactions between vehicles and their environment have contributed to the difficulty. However, connected and automated vehicles have the potential to address these limitations by providing accurate vehicle trajectory data that can be transformed into a time-space diagram to capture vehicle interactions. The study proposes two traffic state prediction methodologies based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) that can utilize the time-space diagram. The first methodology directly uses the time-space diagram in the prediction process, while the second combines microscopic and macroscopic predictions to directly use the interactions among vehicles. Modeling interactions in a collaborative connected automated transportation system: a game theory approach

Continuing evolution in automotive technology along with the growing number of related research in academia and industry gives the impression that self-driving cars are no longer a fantasy. Fueled by recent advances in computation capabilities, sensing, and navigation technologies, autonomous vehicles are envisaged to provide new levels of safety, mobility, and efficiency by taking human errors out of the driving equations. Yet, numerous critical hurdles remain, impeding the full (or even partial) operation of connected automated vehicles (CAVs) on public roads beyond the testing phases. Automated vehicles’ operation hinges on standard algorithms developed for robotic applications. Effects of Climatic Boundary Conditions on Curing and Set Gradient of Concrete

The main purpose of this dissertation was to assess the effect of curing practices on early-age concrete pavement behavior with respect to the development of the set gradient based on the laboratory and field experiments. Several methods were used to relate measured aspects of curing to the concrete properties in the laboratory. The purpose of the laboratory experiments was to show the viability of identified curing quality indicators. Then, the preliminary laboratory testing for the field program was conducted to examine the quality of curing under different ranges of curing combinations. These experiments facilitated the determination of an appropriate application rate for a given curing compound under different ranges of ambient environmental conditions. This assessment appeared to be a feasible method of monitoring curing quality performance under different circumstances and over broad areas of concrete pavement construction. ارتباط بین صنعت و دانشگاه همواره یکی از دغدغه های اساسی خصوصا در حوزه مهندسی بوده است. در سیلابس درسی مهندسی عمران، در مقطع کارشناسی و کارشناسی ارشد خلأ مواردی احساس می شود که پیش نیاز ورود به صنعت می باشد. انواع قراردادها، آشنایی با شرایط عمومی و خصوصی پیمان، فرایند تعریف و انجام پروژه های عمرانی از مطالعات اولیه تا تحویل، تضامین، بیمه و مالیات و ... از جمله مواردی است که دانستن آن نیازمند کسب تجربه چندین ماهه یا حتی چند ساله است. در این دوره سعی می شود مروری مقدماتی جهت آشنایی با مفاهیم پایه ای در حوزه صنعت مهندسی عمران داشته باشیم....

Multi-scale characterization of asphalt binder modified with sustainable modifiers

In this presentation, a newly used approach is presented to use a multi-scale study of asphalt properties to better understand the role of different components of asphalt binder and how to leverage this understanding towards designing more durable and sustainable material for construction. This study uses a combination of experimental and theoretical means to identify asphalt’s most influential components and their molecular structures (known as SARA) and to study the correlation between these molecules’ interactions and mechanical properties of asphalt binder through conventional experimental tests. The goal for this study is to identify modifiers which can improve asphalt binder sustainability by increasing its durability, reduction of cost and alleviation of its environmental impact. Gamification in road management

Inadequate pavement quality can have a negative influence on the fuel consumption, vehicle maintenance, drivers’ safety and comfort, and the emission of gases. Efficient pavement management systems are therefore necessary to ensure the optimal solutions and practices are applied. However, traditional ways of pavement data collection are often too expensive and inconvenient to cover the entire road networks in a timely manner. As smartphones are nowadays equipped with a variety of sensors, such as accelerometers, GPS and cameras, they can be a useful tool for collecting data on pavements. Moreover, since smartphones are widespread among populations, crowdsourcing can be applied in order to quickly collect a large amount of data covering all the network. بهره گیری از داده های خودرو های متصل برای سیستم های مدیریت ترافیک کاربر محور

برای چندین دهه، سیستم های مدیریت ترافیک شهری تحت سلطه وسایل نقلیه بوده اند. این نه تنها به دلیل عدم توجه به کاربران است، بلکه ابزارهای جمع‌آوری داده‌های معمولی برای جمع‌آوری داده‌های خودروی فردی و همچنین داده‌های کاربران خودرو ناتوان هستند. وسایل نقلیه متصل ، به عنوان یک فناوری نوظهور، می تواند داده های خودرو و کاربران آن را در زمان واقعی جمع آوری و انتقال دهد. این توانایی توسعه استراتژی های مدیریت ترافیک کاربر محور را در شبکه های حمل و نقل شهری تسهیل می کند. با این حال، برای تبدیل داده‌های وسایل نقلیه متصل خام به ورودی کارآمد برای کنترل‌های ترافیک، هنوز چالش‌هایی وجود دارد که باید برطرف شوند. علاوه بر این، دستیابی به یک محیط کاملاً متصل در آینده نزدیک به دلیل محدودیت های مختلف امکان پذیر نیست. بر این اساس، هدف این پژوهش توسعه یک استراتژی مدیریت ترافیک بر اساس داده های CV است که معیارهای عملکرد مرتبط با کاربر را در تقاطع های سیگنال دار بهبود می بخشد...
